Hi,
As a newbie to the world of tracking I'm looking for some advice about which tracking software you find particuarly good or bad, or any personal recommendations of where to look.

More specifically, I'm involved with a relatively new e-commerce site and want to analyse the routes taken by visitors on their way to making a purchase or leaving the site. I've checked out WebTrends but as I understand it it must be run on the server. As a start-up company we are using outside webspace and are fairly restricted over the services we can run. Ideally a server log analyser or '1x1 image tracker' would seem to meet our needs but I am very much open to suggestion.

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld! A great discussion just recently on tracking services is here: what web stats service do you use? [webmasterworld.com] which covers most (if not all) the more common programs & options.

We try to avoid specific plugs, feature run downs, etc for most products, as many are commercial, and most of the time the software's can have way more features than you really need. Try digging through that thread, and getting a feel for what's available in the market place from what other people are really using.

Then, match up the various product offerings to your business needs, and go with the one that works best. Good luck!
