Overriding http_referer

Is it possible to override the http_referer query string by adding something like ...mydomain.com?referer=MyDomain! it would be interesting advertising in conjunction with showing people where their traffic is really coming from - no?

any thoughts with possibility, syntax help etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Play with launching the external hit via a javascript construct that opens the page in a popup. Most popups will not pass a referrer.
