Anlog stats vs Faststats stats

Reconciling stats from different analysis packages

I just bought Faststats - interested in the hyperlink tree view particularly. For 5 years we have been looking at Analog output because that comes with the package I've got.

I'm now trying to reconcile stats produced by the two. In both cases I'm asking them to trawl though the same log file and look at 1 week (exactly) worth of site activity.

The two use different definitions but I noted a big difference in the reporting on pages with Faststats ('Hits on pages') clocking up nearly 60% more than Anlog ('Succesful requests for pages') - or 20,000 more in my case. I can't immediately reconcile this, though it does look like Faststats might count failed requests and redirected requests for pages. Even allowing for this there is still a wide discrepancy

I just wondered if anybody had taken this all apart and fully managed to reconcile Anlog and Faststats?

Are you sure that they're both counting the same types of pages? Does Apache count files ending in .cgi as pages, for example? Same goes for .php, .shtml, .cfm, etc - maybe Analog just doesn't register some file types as pages?

Good point Mischief, if that is the case use PAGEINCLUDE *.xxx
