Hi there everyone. I've been trying to track down a browser. I got an email from a user claiming problems with our site and then he went deep and quiet. I've tested the site as much as I can with the browsers I have access to, but I really want to test it out with his browser. I found him in the logs and his UserAgent is Mozilla/4.79+[en]+(Win98;+U).

I spent a half hour looking at UserAgent databases and browser lists and I can't find this one. It appears all over in usage logs and stuff, but I can't find which browser it is. I want to dload and install this browser to look at the site...

Does anyone have a line on this? All help is appreciated.

Darryl.

I think that it might be Netscape 4.79. You can try downloading it here. [sillydog.org]

Do a search in google for "User Agent Checker", and you'll come across a search engine for UA strings. Its probably the most comprehensive listing of UA's I've ever seen.

If you paste in the UA you listed (replacing the pluses with spaces) it will show up as Netscape 4.79.

They even allow you to download the database, which is updated weekly. The DB also provides a ton more information about the capabilities of the browser.
