Newbie to Log Files

Hi
1)I have heard everybody sayin to use log files but can anybody tell me where i can find these log files. I know i have to download them from the server through ftp but i looked eveyrwhre on my server but couldnt find it.

2) Once retrieved whats the best way to read them to get results.

Hi Dupac,

the location will depend on the server setup (ask your host), although you will usually find them in a folder of their own called logs (or something similar).

As for processing them there are lots of different log analysers around, including some free ones try a search on google for "log analyzer".

Logs are of the upmost importance if you intend on optimising your site, definately worth giving your host a call.
