I am new to WebTrends and would like to know the best way to track downloads of PDF's on our site. We are successfully trackling HTML pages by adding a WebTrends tag to each page but would now like to know what the best way is to track PDF's.

It has been suggested to us that we create an HTML re-direct page inbetween the link the the PDF and the actual PDF that we can add the Tag to. This will obviously work but looking around other message on this site I get the impression that there is a better way to do this. I was looking at this message inparticular [webmasterworld.com...]

This is a standard report item for Webtrends. Just make sure "Most Downloaded Files" is checked in your report prefs. It will exactly show every pdf downloaded.

Thanks. That sounds just like what I need. Can you point me in the right direction as to where I can switch on 'Most Downloaded Files' in the reporting preferences?

Report Button>Content Tab>Resources Accessed Section>Select Most Files Downloaded (table and graph options)

Run report!

Yes,

But you should absolutely read Webtrends warning regarding the number of PDF downloads:

Article ID: NETIQKB2494

It IS very important. Basically, the more you have visitors using MSIE (which probably is about 85% of them), the less your numbers of total downloads are reliable. I always have to do some fancy calculation to bring those figures down to more realistic facts.
