Why doesn't Yahoo use ATW?

If Yahoo really wants to compete with Google, why in the world would they use INK over ATW?
IMHO All The Web is 10 times the search engine INK is. It's more reliable, larger, and it's just better.

Inktomi is the worst of the search engines left out there. All The Web (under the Yahoo label) could actually give Google a run for it's money.

I agree, who knows they might be working on a mixture of ink and atw at the moment before they scrap google.

It will be interesting to see the yahoo results when they come out!

Welcome on board kanetrain. I agree with you, ATW has a much larger, cleaner and nicer index. INK has a much larger (paying) client base for PFI, maybe that's why they want to go with them.

But let's see where it heads, who knows?

In fact they might be using it. Rumour has that they will combine all 3 and make a killer SE to give Google some long awaited competition.

It's all about $$ - Yahoo! is run by accountants.

They want the best financial deal and don't really care about Joe Surfer, who probably won't know the results are poor (if they are) anyway.

Inktomi is incredibly bad - our keywords don't actually appear on there *at all* - but 100,000 pages in google!

Very short sighted in my opinion, but that's accountants for you.....

Not gonna happen IMO. They've recently signed up a bunch of SE programmers. In the future we'll see an in-house developed MSN SE. Probably gonna take a while, but Bill knows there's money to be made in search.

Legally, Yahoo does not yet own Overture and therefore does not control ATW. I understand that there are rules about these things and until the takeover is final there has to be a certain amount of seperation.

Yes, exactly. That's why Yahoo! are taking a big risk with Ink unless they have something up their sleeves they're not telling us about.

trillianjedi, I agree with you a company like Yahoo does think more about money then Google, they have the pressure from the investors which only care for money and Im one them. So If yahoo is not making a great deal to make ink better Google will win this until microsoft comes with there version, then it is all over.

Well... we can only hope that Yahoo takes the long road to big profits (by serving the cleanest and best results now).

Pure INK results are definately less relevant than Google. No doubt about it.

Yahoo has surprised in the past (usually it's with something that screws the normal webmaster over) But hey, here's to hoping.

They used to.
There was a remarkable improvement in Yahoo! search results when they switched to "search results powered by AltaVista".

Mind you, at that time AltaVista was the youngest, hottest, brightest thing out of Palo Alto and it was amazingly fast in comparison with WebCrawler. >;->

I wouldent be surprized to see something similar to what myway have done and allow the user to choose what search provider to use.

Might be better in the long run for "joe surfer" but a lot harder for seo's
(to many baskets, not enough eggs)
