I have been watching bots in referral logs for some time now and Fast to me seems a lot like Google bot used to be. No nonsense, crawling of a site, beginning to end within reason. I don't really give a hoot about 85 percent market share, yes Google still fills my logs and gives me a great piece of the pie, and yes, I heart Google. But as a bot watcher, I have to say, this is my observation.
Given the great chance that this post will be deleted it is hard to say but, I can't help but believe for this year, Fast is going to have the best index based solely on having a better bot.
This post isn't about the "new" algo or about Dominique or any "whiney" stuff. Just bot power. I already know from reading here I am not the only one who has noticed this in the last few months.
The question is, will anyone at Google wake up and realize that their bot has been out paced, out maneuvered, and out done lately. After all, in my opinion, Google was built on the great bot it sent out. Does it know that it is being beaten like a piņata?
Please no Google exhortations and visa versa no "ya Google sucks!" either, just bot observation.
only time will tell if all that bot crawling was worth or not
true dat. I am more worried about what bots to get rid of than ones to take, electricity bill@!
Is this your measure of 'good crawling'? If not, can you expand on how you gauge crawling 'goodness'...
gosh, I guess I am being rather esoteric. I know many don't regard that as good conversation, but I find that hunches are often a cousin of the truth and therefore interesting.
No, It isn't my measure of 'good crawling'. If that were the question then I would say that G is right on par. No complaints to the G bot specifically. Just that it seems to have a new mission with freshie, and something else looks like what it used to be, and I liked that old G bot a lot.
I think Google must be considering the fact that many techies are finding better stuff with ATW
No doubt. That is why this was not a "panic" thread.
Thanks again guys. I know that I'm not alone.

Excuse me? What do you mean by that jranes?
>Given the great chance that this post will be deleted
Again, why on earth would we delete a thread like this?
Now back to the topic. Fast has a really good bot and I haven't experienced any problems with getting it to go deep or pick up new pages etc. Google's bot is quite as clever and they do seem to index just the same amount of pages from sites I've looked at lately.
We've seen a lot of posts where members claim they have good rankings, frequent bot visits and serps that look good. Now we just need a couple of monster websearch partners for Fast and all this conversation would be really interesting ;)
Thanks for sharing your observations though!
