Lycos update and odd descriptions

Started seeing a lot of Lycos traffic overnight. But anyone see the descriptions? Looks like the first set of words on the page and totally ignoring the description tag. That is annoying...my first set of text is affiliate and not necessarily on topic. Glad they at least use the title tag.

James, I'm now seeing the description coming straight out of the NOFRAMES section. Lycos spidered these on it's own, btw [lycos.com].

Does anyone know if they are shuffling their results throughout the day?

When I try to cross-check some referring log information in different parts of the day, my listing is there only part of the time.

yep, they have a history of shuffling like they can't make up their mind what kind of results they want to produce...my traffic stopped as soon as it started so I assume the site got shuffled back out.

:)

we definitely saw a FAST update over the past week or so. havent noticed a Lycos update, though...

rcjordan,

what do you mean by "Lycos spidered these on it's own, btw"? are you seeing pages with listings from Lycos spiders, where FAST never visited? or are you seeing Lycos-cloaked pages appearing, rather than FAST pages?

i've been cross-checking results vs. FAST and the listings and traffic i am seeing are all FAST-related, business as usual...

Seeing the same thing here. All my Lycos rankings are from FAST's results before they(fast) updated last week or two.

What is really sickening is that Lycos mixes in all their category sites with everything else. I really wish they would separte their category section with that of actual web sites/pages (at least like Yahoo). Whoever drew up the design plan for their results must be ex-Ebay.

Same here seoboy, although there does seem to have been some "shuffling" in the Lycos results. It may be related to littlemans observations here [webmasterworld.com], then again.....

(Sorry I missed this before.) I was just commenting that Lycos found them on its own, I didn't submit the pages with <noframes> that it has now indexed. I used Dumptruck back in April to submit about 50 site directory pages.
