Lycos: One or the Other?

Appearing in advanced but not regular search...

I wrote to Lycos and asked them why my site (when searching by business name and/or URL) appeared on Advanced search results (at lycospro.lycos.com) but not their regular search results (www.lycos.com).

They never did write back, but all of a sudden my site appears under URL/name searches in their REGULAR search, but NOT the Advanced search... :¦

Anyone seen this happen? I'd write back to Lycos again, but I'm afraid my site would dissappear off the regular search when it reappeared on the advanced one, and I'm pretty sure the regular search gets more public use...

Hi mivox,

>Anyone seen this happen?

To be honest no, although lycospro isn't somewhere I hang out a lot. I will try and keep an eye out for any differences in the two search methods as we wait for Lycos to update it's results from Fast.

It's very odd... I've written to Lycos about it, and they said they could not duplicate the problem. They included the URLs they used to search for my domain... when I used the URLs they sent, I appeared in regular search, but not advanced.

I'm confounded... and they don't seem to know what's going on either.

This brings up a question - is there a good method for finding all the pages listed in your domain on Lycos (like the domain: method in Inktomi or host: method in AV) WITHOUT using lycospro? In other words, to query lycos proper & not lycos pro.

And for lycos UK?

I just type in the url 'www.YOUR-DOMAIN.com', and leave it at that... here's the regular Lycos link they sent me (it works the same way):

[lycos.com...]

That search will return all pages from that domain and all pages linking to that domain, so it's not super precise... but it's not too hard to scroll through and spot your own pages... and you get a good idea of how many links they have to you.
