Name: Fast Search & Transfer ASA (FAST)
#1 Question I would guess people would like to know is:
How do you optimize for FAST?
There is always the number 1 rule, good content, but hopefully you know the basic.
FAST seems to present there serp’s almost as Inktomi does, so there algo must be similar.
It doesn’t look like FAST puts a lot of weight on the domain name, almost nothing IMO.
I haven’t been able to achieve a good ranking when I have mixed up language on a page.
For example if I have an index page, with an English description but also an Italian one.
Please tell me if you have succeeded with this.
Also according to FAST they don’t use DMOZ data for ranking purpose, they use it to categorize the results, it gives the user a good overview.
Also include Meta tags, but don’t think they will give you that top ranking.
FAST uses Meta tags very little in there algo.
2# how often do they update their Index.
The last I heard (4 weeks ago) was that they Update 25% of the index every week.
So when 1 month has gone they should have updated the entire index.
They also update sites which changes it’s content more often.
Also popular sites are updated more often.
FAST’s spider can crawl up to 150 million pages a day.
When Q2 ends FAST should have 2 Billion pages indexed.
FAST gets about 50 Million queries each day and increasing.
40 Million of the queries is pure web searches.
The rest if Multimedia searches etc.
Alltheweb.com gets about 2 million queries each day.
Now comes the part were I tried to do a small FAQ like Brett did for Google even thou
that wasn’t a small one (this one isn’t near in quality).
I heard FAST techs post here?
Yes it happens.

To the point, how one can find out how many pages FAST has indexed from a site, it may be added that fast is very good for finding out about inbound links of a site by using the advanced search and typing the URL both in a field with "must include in the link to URL" and "must not include in the URL".
The whole advanced search is fully customizable. For a start I recommend reading through the help on
basic search [alltheweb.com]
advanced search [alltheweb.com]
BUT, there is also a randomizing factor in the algo that throws in a result that is related on theme but without the keywords anywhere on the page, title, etc. Can anyone shed some light on this? That is has any one else experienced this, or knows any more about it?
Please help.
I find it very hard to understand how FAST ranks there results, they never have a stable index, and it looks like they change their algo every day.
What Martinbuster saw i think was just some temporary glitch, or they had an old cache of the page.
They use snippets most of the time now, but it can be that they find the term on the page even though it's not mentioned in the Meta tags that they show.
