A question, has anyone got a site upto the top in a competitive key term arena and stayed their for the last 6 months or so, i would certainly be interested to know.

It's been reported that FAST doesn't always update their index every
nine to eleven days as they state they do on their site, so I asked
Stephen to tell us a bit about FAST's indexing procedure. He told me
that they currently update 30% of the index every seven days. The
rest of the index gets updated approximately every 28 days, and
they're working to make that even faster.
They're also hoping to have 2 billion URLs indexed in the near future.
They currently have over 900 million URLs in the index, and have
validated over 600 million. Right now they're working on crawling
more and more pages in order to validate them and find more data.
This new verified data will get put into the index soon.

The weird thing is, when I look at them, its the same SERP results for sites in my particular category. Its almost like theirs 2 pages, one template and the other being the same list of sites over and over again.
This is about 95% of the extra link pop i see from any sort of FAST update :)
Yes i think that FAST can compete against Google, but they don't aim for the same things.
Many people wonder if Fast’s own search engine site AllTheWeb.com will be a stronger competitive to Google.com in the near future?
NO, and they don’t want to be.
AllTheWeb is a pure show off for new features etc.
Sure they don’t mind people using it, but they make their money from licensing out their solution, not from people doing searches on AllTheWeb.com
Google.com is meant to be a destination site for the surfer.
Alltheweb.com is not.
Also
Stephen thougth that we would see an increase of Traffic from Lycos, because he thougth they hade made a real upswing in there way of presenting the results, and the site itself looks nicer now.
Added: Fast gets about 50 Million queries a day an increasing.

Google sends me about 1000 visitors/day. MSN sends about 600 visitors/day, and Yahoo sends lower 500's/day. From there, it takes a dive...AOL sending me mid 100's/day...and Lycos sending me about 80 visitors/day.
I have great placements at Lycos and FAST. I'll be paying close attention to Lycos...afterall, the trend is positive and upward.
Lazerzubb, have you given up on google dance announcement? ;)
Alltheweb is, as stated here time and again a mere showcase for Fast - they do not promote Alltheweb.
Measuring the importance of Fast by the traffic from Alltheweb is like measuring the importance of Overture by the traffic coming from searches at Overture's site.
A good listing at Fast can do something for you, wether you are US based or Euro based.
Fast's technical director Knut Magne Risvik said in an interview two weeks ago Fast had now an 800 Mill. index - and would expand to the magic 2 Bill. til the end of Q1. This index including lots of dynamic pages and more deep indexing.
