Fast vs Lycos Pay for inclusion?

If I pay to be in Fast I should get results in Lycos, Alltheweb, HotBot and others right?

If that is the case, why would anyone opt the Lycos pay for inclusion? Do you recieve higher placement in Lycos?

Which is better and what are the differences (if any).

Yes you will, but you see results in 24 hour good if you got a new site if you optimizing alot you will see the result in just a day or two.

Anotherting who is greate is if the comany have a campain the new products is out very quickly.

Is it wourth it maybe maybe not.

kris, you can not pay FAST.
The FAST PartnerSite programme is available through Lycos.com to customers from the US.
Lycos.Europe do unofficially offer their own version of the programme.

Paying Lycos.com gets your site into the FAST db in 24-48 hours. The paid pages get refreshed in that timeframe too.

Lycos acts as reseller for FAST PartnerSite. Other Portal partners of FAST are expected to follow.

This is the experience I've had with Lycos Insite Select. Lycos came and crawled my site, all of it, then FAST's crawler stopped by and took my index page. I didn't see the logic in two spiders, or submitting a site that was already in the index, but when I paid Lycos I expected to be listed in the Lycos directory. Well that doesn't work, FAST will come to your site everyday, and update every 48 hours (sometimes longer it seems till an update)and this will take place on FAST servers. I don't believe that Lycos really has any intention of crawling and indexing on their own, but this is just from my experience and I still feel that saving your money and waiting 2 months for a FAST listing is better, unless you really want an update every 48 hours. I guess only you can decide if $30.00 for the initial page, and $12.00 a page thereafter is worth it.

As I am in the UK, if I submit via Looksmart.com I will be listed by:

Fast.com
Lycos.com
Lycos.co.uk

And all 'partners' regardless of their country indices?

Obviously, I realise that 'native language' pages will probably be given preference, but my main concern is that I am listed in .co.uk and .com versions of the Partners SE's and where/how many times I have to submit a page to achieve this kind of coverage?

Also Heini, what about an EU language .com page? Should this be submitted through the local country Lycos or straight to Fast?

Looksmart is not part of the equation.

Lycos portals all over the world receive websearch results from FAST. FAST also powers alltheweb.com.
So if you get in FAST's db, your pages appear on alltheweb.com, on Lycos portals in US, UK, and Europe, also on the Tiscali powered portals, on T-online.de.
You might submit through Lycos portals for free, and also on Alltheweb.com for free to get in FAST.
Alternatively you might pay at Lycos.com to get in FAST db. Your paid pages will get refreshed every 24-48 hours, inclusion guaranteed.

Lycos does not have an own db.

In addition: whatever the language or the TLD, you can submit all page to Fast via alltheweb.com directly.
Generally Fast works pretty much like Google. Pages get found and included going from links to those pages. So the free submission does not hurt, but when there are no links pointing to a page, it's doubtful if those pages are included and if so, for how long they stay in the db.

The logic is quite simple. When you register a site through the Lycos PfS service, Lycos crawls the site to count up the number of pages in that site. That's useful as a quick check of the crawlability of your site.

You may subscribe to the service just by telling Lycos to index N pages of that crawl. I'm not sure how useful that service is.

Anyway, that initial crawl is not indexing the content. The indexing will not happen until after you've submitted the order and the payment is authorized.

Well, I would of course not know for sure, but it's an educated guess after trying the service.

It seemed as if the Lycos spider was doing some sort of verification, crawling my complete site, and then instructing fast to take the index page...maybe to compare? Not sure.

I really was hoping to get a lycos listing, and was quite optimistic when I saw that deep crawl, I can't say they won't ever publish the pages they crawled, but it's probably unlikely. Maybe I just want to give them the benefit of the doubt on the premise of "why crawl if you won't post?". I'm sure that plenty of people have had spiders crawl their sites and have never seen anything from it so I know they can just go for walk because it's nice out, I'd just like to believe something will come of that.
