Lycos now using Direct Hit

Lycos and Fast never added my site, but now

Lycos and Fast never got around to indexing my site, but I check every day anyway, today Lycos pulls up my site in Direct Hit and on the bottom of the page says results are from Fast and Direct Hit. Hope some of the other Fast users like Galaxy get the hint. Must be a sign Lycos realizes something isn't right.

Hi Robert,

They have been using this approach for some time now, very similar to the situation at Hotbot, including the DMOZ element.

Care to share your Direct Hit success tips, they really don't like me and I could do with some help.

Hmmm, maybe I should be looking up something other than my own site in Lycos occasionally, that might also account for why this was the first time I saw the Direct Hit results supplied by logo next to the Fast Logo. I know they've been using it for Hotbot, never seen it for Lycos. What I've noticed is Direct hit is using the broken description Alta Vista uses, I think being in Alta Vista was the source of success and Direct Hit got the link from there, even though I submitted dozens of times to Direct Hit and nothing happened. When asked they were sending out those "oh we're so busy we can't list your site for months" replys. Anyway, about two months ago I first noticed Direct Hit finding my site at the top of MSN Inktomi Search results, so it took Lycos two more months to update or whatever the same Direct Hit result. Maybe this works like ODP where search sites using ODP on site directory can take months to update their listings even though it was updated on ODP recently. In other words ODP says "last update 10/02" and Dog Pile might say "last update 06/07" still. The only other way I can account for part of the "success" is going to the eight major search engines and looking up the site every day and clicking on an internal link or two, takes time, but I think site owners should do this for new sites. It might also help that I've made it a hobby to submit to a few new search engines every week and of course search there for the site before I add the url. Or maybe this is totally bogus and I got lucky. RP

Robert, I think you are right in one regard, that it is a new place for the logo. Didn't it used to be at the bottom of the page(?)

You are also correct about se's spidering one another for links. It happens quite frequently. I believe Fast has been spidering Alta for certain results. High ranked pages on Alta have suddenly appeared high ranked on Fast. I've always believed there is more of this that goes on than people realize.
