"new voice portal.....users will be able to get web information by phone."

"In the UK, Lycos has launched a £2 million ($3 million) ad campaign"

Article here [revolution.haynet.com].

This is starting to move into "Star Trek" territory! A voice recognition search engine.

It's amazes me that Lycos (uk) are spending so much money ramming there name down our throats (in the UK )when I've never been able to get anything onto there DB, fortunately I don't think I'm alone with this problem.

Perhaps we could convince them to spend some of this hard earned revenue on improvements to their URL submission service.

I've almost given up trying to train that dog to collect any of my sites.

If the site is up to scatch try the directory route, otherwise just hold on you'll get in eventually. ;)

I don't believe it !!!!!!!!

After months of trying I am finally in the UK DB. Last week I submitted to the directory for the 1st time. I am not in the directory yet, but I now have 600+ pages in the DB. Don't know if this is just coincidence.

Interestingly the spider has crawled a bunch of dynamic pages, which include questions marks in the URL. The trouble with is, it has also crawled my static versions of the same (completely identical) pages. After waiting this long to get in, I don't want to get thrown out for spamming !

I am not amused...
There`d be no way to get into the index of Lycos, doesn´t matter whether .com or .de (my SE).
It´s just running gag in Germany: on tv there is a advertisment where the lycos-dog get direktly what you want (in one case a slip...for a scottish) - but when you try the same search in the SE you´ll get no useful results at all.
My opinion is lycos should spend the money to refresh the index and to take care that the results are pretty good in future.

I don't know who did what where, but I've been getting quite a bit of traffic lately from uk lycos. About the time littleman mentioned some hits from over there, I started getting some too. The funny thing, is that I've never submitted to them and I think I've only been there a dozen times.

I've been trying to get listed in FAST (alltheweb) for close to six months now and still not even a single page has been indexed.
I've had several email replys from FAST apologizing for the delay but absolutely NO results. They show dozens of very old news group postings we made but I can not get even our home page listed. Don't think we ever spammed them.

I am well listed in ALL of the other major SE and have top ten positions in most so I doubt there is something wrong with my submission criteria or pages.

I have also submitted directly to LYCOS with the same miserable
results.

Fortunately we have good lisings in the other SE so I am about ready to quit wasting my time with these lousy outfits.

anyone know if lycos.uk has same algo's as .com ?

I don't want to get excited over our "old dog" but as inktomi still doing it's best to put us all out of business I need to look at other SE's to try and build some credibility back with my clients.

I have sites listed in lycos.com that don't appear in Lycos.uk but others with good results in uk that aren't listed in .com

I have not submitted those sites to lycos.uk but they are .co.uk sites.

It seems there is a filtering going on that shunts .com sites to Lycos.com and .co.uk sites to Lycos.uk?
