no, alltheweb is not a powerhouse traffic generator, but do not neglect or discount this little beauty. This database will be picked up by major portals and meta engines given enough time. Example:

google, while being a mediocre referrer on its own has two very major search services that use it primarily (netscape and yahoo). Not too long ago I remember people making fun of google and saying that it was a waste of time to try to manipulate the algorithm (or even submit to it). Now google refers more traffic to my sites than excite, infoseek and northern light put together ..

Get your pages indexed in FAST and let father time work his magic. Don't be shocked when you suddenly start getting a flood of traffic when somebody big decides they like FAST's results and starts using them. They are a little rusty now, but have made leaps and bounds recently. I wouldn't be surprised if more than one inktomi customer switches to FAST within the next 12 months. I imagine inktomi will look similar to what infoseek looked like in late 1997 i.e. first 50 results always dominated by equally relevant spam. (Too many optimization opportunities given to webmasters is not going to be healthy to the database) Anyway, keep your eye on FAST, and keep the FAST board open :)

Good points. Lycos is starting to have a very positive effect with Fast listings. We are getting more off our Fast/Lycos listings than Infoseek, Northern Light, and Excite combined.

Point taken, but I'm curious as to why Fast is on your radarscope. Hints of traffic, perhaps?

Speaking of hints of traffic, does anyone have any comment about NorthernDarkness... err, NorthernLight?

They do seem to be quite "active", with a little more concentration on the PR side this engine could really boom.
