Hi all,

Been lurking on this site for the past couple of days tried to take it all in.

Heres my dilema. I recently came across a book that has just been released to the public that targets a niche area yet has reasonable internet traffic (i.e, 30,000+ last month on overture for one of the main words/phrases). This person has just set up a website and will be attempting to sell them as hard copies via the internet. At this stage there is little evidence that the person has any knowledge of internet marketing (i.e., site not indexed, no meta tags, weak sales copy).

I am thinking of either (a) approaching the person and asking for resell rights to market the book on the internet as an ebook via an improved website or (b) writing my own version of the book (with the assistance of a couple of friends of mine highly knowledgable in the area).

Advantages of a)
book is already written and there are a number of testimonals supporting its claims.
Disadvantages of a)
person may say no, less money in long run if successful.

Advantages of b)
potentially more money, total control of project
Disadvantages of b)
will take 1-2 months to write, no testimonials.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice on which route I should take and why?

Cheers,

Write your own ebook even if it takes 2 months. "Testimonials" will roll in automatically if your product is good.

But once you write an ebook, make sure you have an affiliate program and make sure your affiliates get a very good deal. After your complete your ebook, concentrate on signing up affiliates for the first couple of months.

After that, just stand back and wait for the checks to roll in.

If your creation takes 2 months, you can probably try to promote others' ebooks in the meantime.

The best part about of writing your own ebook is that you won't have any marketing expenses (assuming you have a good affiliate program)

Thanks for the reply vibgyor79.

The more I think about it I would be probably even better off (long term) turning it into a restricted access website and charge subscriptions on a per annum basis.
That way I could conceivable get more $$ out of each customer rather than a one off hit.

Would be more easier to write as well.

Why not use the time and create a site for promoting your own ebook already? Create the sales copy, get the site up and running so that its found by the SE's, promote others ebooks as backfill.
When your own ebook is finished, just put it on your site and the time between putting it there and the first targeted visitors is shorter than when you start when the product is finished.
Also prepare your pay-per-click campaign in advance, so you don't loose time there.
Good luck!
