Popup Stats vs Site Stats

Are popup suppliers undercounting?

I have placed popups on my sites from Popuptraffic. I have counters on the index pages of each of these sites, and the figures from these counters are in agreement with the site stats provided by my site host, so thery are accurate. These counters yield figures for pages views, visitors & unique visitors.

The popups are generated on every visit to my pages, yet it appears that for every 100 unique visitors to these index pages alone, my popuptraffic payment stats show a total count of roughly 35 popups displayed. Additional visitors are entering my sites via pages other than the index as well, so the real unique visitor number is probably 130.

Why is there such a large divergence between the popup / unique vistor stats?

ever heard of popup blockers? these are mostly built in these days for example: zoalarm

so 55 out of 100 have popup blocker or something. (some people without blocker closem even before they load, like me)

If your figure of 55 out of 100 with popup blockers is really true, that would explan things. My Fastclick stats are showing 35 popunders for every 90 banners.

Is that 55/100 an accurate number?

Also consider the number of users who have learned to close popups before they fully load.

And uniques - they are probably only counting (24 hour) unique views of the popup.

These things, and the usage of popup stoppers contribute to different numbers, but it still sounds possibly low.

Want to find out? Make your own popup, replace the paid one for a couple of days (use a bookmark script, email a friend, or ezine signup in it) and compare your pageview numbers. This still probably won't take uniques into consideration, depending on your logfile analysis, but will give you a better idea.

The stat regarding people blocking popups is way too high in my estimate.

I bet if you looked at your server logs you are receiving the traffic promised. These counters just aren't quick enough to pick up the popunder traffic as it can be closed quite quickly.
