Hi

I am wondering if anyone has any experience of buying an existing affiliate site - one that is underperforming because it is poorly optimised.

I am thinking it could save months of work if you can buy a site that is already listed in google, dmoz, yahoo etc - and already has hundreds of product pages built.

All you need to do is take it over, optimise the pages properly, and then watch the traffic and income shoot up.

It seems that this could be a lot more profitable than starting from scratch yourself

I'm not so sure, Optimization for me most often includes re-design so the effort saved on having to root out all those prd's would be more than offset with the rebuilding of an entire site...

Still, the listings would be worth a bit ;)

the listings are good, but at the end of the day by the time you redesign and rebrand you could have set up a fairly decent site by yourself and went thru the submissions process.

I took over a smallish website a while back and ended just starting again. It was probably quicker for me in the long run.

I guess its all down to the cost of buying an existing site and the time it would take to make it good!

Fair points about the time spent to redesign - it could well end up taking as long if you had to really start from scratch.

Of course - if all you had to do was retitle the pages to make them jump up the rankings, you'd be laughing!
