I've turned a couple of content sites into affiliate + content sites and am now waiting for more traffic/purchase patterns to see where to go from here. I've got a couple of months to wait.

What is your advice about how best to spend my time during this period:

-- Increase product listings and/or create more affiliate sites

-- Research more aggressive SEO techniques (doorway pages, cloaking, having throw-away domains that point to affiliate sites, etc.)

-or-

-- Add to the content on the sites.

Thanks for any feedback!

I would say develop the existing site as much as possible. When that is done perhaps start a new site, but use the new site as a learning experience - try and stretch yourself with new technologies to keep up with the game.

I would say work on drumming up more and better incoming links from external sites.

Improved link popularity will stand you in good stead regardless of ups and downs in the search engines.

Any clue as to how many incoming links are needed? When people do the throw-away domains in order to have incoming links, why does that help, given that the throw-away domains probably don't have any better PR than the main site?

But remember that often these throw away domains can be placed into networks of the owners other sites overnight which might have respectable PR.
