How much pre-selling for affiliate programs?

There are some products where just all about the necessary information is presented at the affiliate's site, including product photos and descriptions, and whether the sale is "closed" can depend only on completing the transaction at the product site.

With others, though, it can't be that thorough and could rely on the company's presentation whether any sales are actually made. A brief description or recommendation with a text link for affiliate programs is effective, but how much of the selling process should take place at the target site once the visitor clicks on that link? And how much pre-selling should have to be done by the affiliate?

I like to do as much of the selling as I can on my site before I send them on. Many of the affiliate programs I work with have no idea about how to sell a product effectively and I have seen much better results if I do most of the selling and just link them to a check out page or something like that.

The less the main site effectively sells with their info, the more you have to do.
