I would suspect that 1/1500 unique visitors to your site will be adventurous enough to buy the book. At least that's my experience.
You can swing the odds in your favor, though. Here's two things you can do:
1st, make sure your site has something in common with the book.If your site is about gangsta rap, your visitors won't care about Barry Manilow or Twisted Sister. They will probably be interested in a bio of 2pac or The Notorious B.I.G.
2nd, tell them what to do. Write a review telling them why they should buy it, then tell them to buy it. That means you have to read the book yourself.
Also, forget banner ads and pop-ups. They're not worth the time, effort, or bandwidth. They have a cloaking device that prevents users from clicking on them. Underlined text links telling users what to do work the best.
Example:

[the above is not an endorsement, rather it is just an example, and the only one I could think of off the top of my head.]
Search engines love content. Give them what they want.
Again, make sure it's tied in with your site's existing content. Don't include the above book in a site about the sit-com "Friends".
Affiliate programs are not a "get-rich-quick scheme". Rather it will take lots of work, and you won't make much money until you have several books reviewed.
I'd like to add, don't put the proverbial cart before the horse.
You need a website with traffic to sell advertising (which is what affiliate programs are - performance advertising.) You may need to focus on this first, and then learn how to plug ads in, where appropriate, to make money.
