Affiliate Programs - jumping on the bandwagon

Would this type of site work to gain affiliates?

I’ve been reading some threads about affiliate programs and I have a question. I want to make a sort of “fan” site about a person. This person is rapidly gaining popularity and there are no sites to be found on this person in the SEs.

Would there be affiliates interested in advertising on a site like this? - assuming I get the traffic I think I can, of course;)

I did some research and there are plenty of affiliates that *I believe* would benefit from a site like this. Ex: this person is a “famous cat expert” and I would try to get affiliates selling cat food, cat toys, etc.

I hope I’m explaining this OK, since there’s a lot I don’t understand yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I haven’t found any threads about the kinds of sites that are successful other than a well themed site.

(I plan to make this site a part of a larger themed site, but I gotta start somewhere, right?)

Hi Mona,

>>Would there be affiliates interested in advertising on a site like this?

Assuming it's profitable for them yes there would be interest if you went out and recruited the affiliates.

If you've already done the research into what affiliate programs would be compatible with the site, why not sign yourself up as an affiliate of the various programs and earn a commission instead of having the advertising affiliates earning a commission:)?

I'm not quite sure what you mean... Do you have a product you want to sell about this famous person? If you want to start an affiliate program you must first have a product or service to sell. If not than I think Eljefe is right create a site around this famous person and then join affiliate programs that pertain to him/her. Advertise these affiliate programs on your 'famouse cat person site'.

Yes, this is what I want to do. I just wasn't sure how to say it. I don't want to sell products myself, I want to earn a commission from sending my traffic to other related sites that sell products.

So, it sounds like this type of site will work then. Thanks for responding!

Trial and error is often the key in the affiliate game. Something you think may work won't and something you think won't will. Just try to weave the affiliate stuff into your content and at all costs, stay away from banners and looking like the typical affiliate site....you will ruin credibility right away.

Thanks, I should be able to do that. I want my site to make a bit of a profit while also providing quality content for my visiters. I agree that banner ads do take away from quality.

I will try to refrain and will look back at this post in the future if I feel myself ever weakening!

Unfortunately M, I was only using the "pet" thing as an example. The site will have nothing to do with our furry little friends.

I realize that I'm not always the best at cleary stating my thoughts, so I appreciate the response anyways.

LOL..yes, I realize that. That's why my post had the *ahem* part. ;)

I mean..."famous cat expert"....come on....:)

Anyways, good luck with the affiliate stuff - been doing a lot of research/thinking on the subject myself.

Yea, you're right. I think I have my cats on my brain too much.

Thanks, and good luck to you, too if you give it a try.
