Great Domain Name, Niche Market. Need Advice

I have searched this site for a couple hours and have found some great info, but still need a little guidance. I have owned a great domain name in a niche market (scuba diving) since 1999. People are always asking me if the name is for sale and I say no, so I think it has some great potential.

So here is where I need the advice. I know this is a very broad question, but where do I turn first to start making money? I have no time or interest to start any kind of mail order store. Should I just do a search for the related term, and contact the websites that I see to find out if they have affilliate programs?

Sorry for the general question, I haven't done anything quite like this before.

Look at adsense, look at cj.com, linkshare, shareasale, or whatever AM networks are in you region (I'm assuming your US?)

It's up to you to work out what products are appropriate, there's no shortage to choose from ;-)

If you log in to CJ and have a look around it should all start coming together, how it all works I mean.

Good luck.

First and most importantly you need to build the site.
Forget about monetising it until the end. You can't profit from something you don't have. Write what you need to write and provide your users with exactly what they need. Your site should give your users a reason to stop and stare and then come back for more.

THEN you should start thinking about how you squeeze a few bucks out of your site.

There are loads of options from selling gear and accessories to holidays and so on.

You say you have no time or interest to start an online store. You don't have to go the whole hog. just punt a few related items like watches or whatever.

OTOH some contextual advertising could be the way to go. However, even if you manage to get a large traffic flow you will not earn much because of the low bid value on such a tight niche. Although if you target your pages well you could get some of the travel related ads which do pay reasonably well.

This is what I would do.

1. Hire someone to design a site.
2. Hire someone to build me a 75 word keyword list
3. Hire a writer to write 75 articles.
4. put everything together and put up adsense and affiliate links.
5. Buy 2 static text links from at least a PR6.
6. Hire someone to do directory submission
7. go back to what I was doing before and wait.
8. 8 months later be making $100 a day.

Great advice and information! Thanks I appreciate it. Can anyone recommend a reputable copy-writing service?

I am also looking for a copy writer at the moment. Try posting in the commercial exchange forum. You will have to wait for the thread to be authorised but it might be worth it.

I would hardly call scuba diving a niche. Scuba Diving in Fiji or Scuba Diving Wet Suits but not it on its own!

You don't know the name... But it's not Scuba Diving, it's a niche of Scuba Diving. For example cave diving, wreck diving, technical diving, etc.

Everything has a niche. It's just that some niches are bigger than others. eg BlackJack is a niche within an even bigger niche - a sub-niche if you like.

wikipedia say: "Generally, a niche is a special place within the scheme of things."

and this one I just love "Niche: An organism’s place in the ecosystem: where it lives, what it consumes, what consumes it, and how it interacts with all biotic and abiotic factors." heh heh

It doesn't suggest that a niche should have a specific size to be considered such.

Sorry I'm at work and very bored
