Hey everyone,

Currently I have a hobby site up and I want to start advertising on it. Currently I have AdSense on my site and I get roughly 125 USD a month. I want to replace AdSense with advertisements for companies relating my topic. I was curious how should I do this? Considering my site was launched in March, and the visits a month are low (just over 3000) shoudl I charge by page impressions?

Also, I just got an offer from a company wanting to sponsor my website. What does this mean? Is it safe? If its a good thing to do, how do I go about getting sponsors?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Sponsorship can mean many things - start negotiating with them! Generally, it is providing advertising with links ("this site sponsored by Acme") but there are no set rules on the specifics - what, how much, etc. Sponsorship is like any business relationship - some are mutually beneficial, others not. You need to sound them out and see what they are about. Would you buy from that company?

My affiliate programs bring in 10x what Adsense does, but I have lots of regular visitors that tune out those ads, which are not always geared to a very specific niche I serve.

Great, thanks for the info. As for advertisements then, what is a good price to charge. I was thinking around like $10 every 1000 visists. I wanted to do it this way because I don't have a lot of visitors and as the site grows so will the cost to advertise.

Would advertising on a site as new as mine be most benefitial to go with cost per CPM? Or, should I just stick it at a fixed monthly rate?

What do most advertising companies perfer?

Thanks again for your help :)

Remember that the few the number of visits to a site, the less you can charge (even considering on a per-1000 impressions basis). It is not worth most companies time to advertise on smaller sites (hence the popularity of AdSense). Therefore, and avertising they do would be at a discounted rate.

Yeah I can understand that. Well I guess I can just make up a media kit and have the option available to companies, and if they like the idea, then they can advertise :)

I just want to make sure I don't rip them off or sell myself short.
