what sort of advertising do i need?

hiya guys im currently developing a freelance auction website for web design and graphic desing and translation a bit like elance but slightly different. im currently looking for ways to plan my advertising campain but im stuck iv got a low budget and cant affort that much. what advertising do you think i should use im considering signing up to one of those baner exchange sites are they worth it or not? also i will exchange links with other websites on a daily basis and also use some adwords to( not much tho cos of my budget) could you point me in the rite direction please guys? thank you

Go for PPC (AdWords etc.)

If you get it right, the advertising will be a straightforward investment:

1) Pay $xx for 100 visitors.
2) Convert y% of those visitors into customers.
3) Earn 2($xx).

that sounds good so you recon ppc to start off with and not bother with banner exchange?

Yes.

Exchange banners can irritate visitors and the extra code and links can have a detrimental effect on your SERPs.

what about paid advertising on websites with my own baner? and no banners on my site?

It can work if they agree to show your banner that are relevant to their own subject matter.
