ShareSale or Independant?

Is Sharesales network worth paying 20%?

Hey guys,

I run a monstercommerce storefront and I'm currently torn between setting up an independant affiliate program or going through sharesale. CJ and Linkshare are out of the question at this point due to the pricing.

The main incentive why I'm looking into sharesale is due to their network of publishers. I saw a post here saying that their network is not worth the fee, but that was from 2003.

Any one have more current experiences with them?

I have not heard much about shareasales perhaps they're not much popular but might be effective. On other hand if you're targeting specific to US region then CJ can be a good option.

It's not "sharesale" it is "ShareASale". Hence the SAS abbreviation.

It won't cost you much to try them out.

If you build an independent program, how are you going to recruit affiliates? That's on of the main advantages of a network.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, it's only gonna cost me $150 set up fee to give it a try. the main concern I had is paying out the 20% to Share a sale, and still having to do the recruiting mostly myself. But I looked on some other forums and they seem to be pretty popular with publishers, so I'll give them a try and if it doesn't work out, there is no cancelation fee or contract or anything.

I'll post back in a month or so and let you guys know my experience.

We have an in-house program and also offer a program through ShareASale, and it has worked out good for us. For the in-house program I actively go out and prospect and for ShareASale, it was nice to have a network of affiliates ready to join our programs. I would suggest to try out ShareASale. The folks over there are great to work with too.

I cant remember ever reading a bad word about the SAS network and I read a lot of forums posts believe me :-)

Its a natural tendancy to be nagative in a lot of forums so its even more of a plug for SAS that they remain one of the few companies in the affiliate marketing space worldwide that has a virtually spotless forum press.

On that basis alone they would be worth joining for the amount of money involved.

I was originaly considering just an in-house program but now am considering shareasale also.

I'm looking for an in-house software option but my problem is that I do not have the programing experience needed to do it myself and also have no idea what software would be best for someoje like myself on a very limited budget. Is there software out that that is user friendly for those who lack experience.
