I have found that e-books are a bit of a pain to promote. Saying that, many people have a good experience and are very (and I mean VERY) successful at selling them.
There are so many massive portal type sites selling everything from cardboard boxes to your own grandmother that it is getting harder to compete.
IMHO these are programs to avoid or think hard about unless you are a fantastic spammer or intend to build THE authority site.
Adult - too competetive
Pills - Too dodgy and also competetive
Gambling - Hell! I tried this one too. Nightmare
Finance - Tricky but it works well if you can get the traffic
Health and Wellbeing - Man! too many spammer hippies here ;oP
Travel related - Never tried it but the market is so saturated it is overflowing.
E-bay - again too many trying to beat the successful few.
Amazon - as above.
Obviously if you are confident in your talents you should try some of the above 'niches'. These are the best paying programs IMO.
Don't let me put you off trying anything, I personally have had minimal success with some of the above and reasonable success with some of the others.
You need to find what works for you. Try punting something you are interested in. You will find it easier to put a site together and generate the volume of traffic you will need to become a successful AMer.
Heh, how many time can you use the word success or successful in one post
Good Luck
