As an Amazon affiliate I have seen my sales for electronics, and specifically cameras go off the cliff. The lowest sales since I started tracking in April. I also noticed that cameras that used to be in the top ten electronics are now moved down to #30 and below. What is happening? Anyone else notice the drop?

Is this normal for september? What are the best months for cameras?

I am assuming its combination of time of year, katrina, high gas prices, etc.

Any insight to this, and when should I see things return to normal for cameras in particular. I have noticed all electronics sales down, but the cameras took the hugest drop.

Are your ranks / traffic sources / number of visitors still the same?

Probably a drop in search engine ranking.

...or a rise in petrol/gasoline prices.

I say this holiday season is likely a bust as disposable income flows into the tank instead of my online shopping carts. I think we are seeing rising oil prices affecting us already and will much more in the upcomming months. Be prepared IMHO.

... and with amazon just sending a promo mail to their existing customers here in germany advertising digital cameras with heavy discounts ( up to 70% ), notmany are going to compare prices on other sites. they go directly to amazon.

Unfortunately, I am in a similar situation with amazon, but with a different product.
Try to build some content around your theme, in this case photography. Offer books about taking pictures, photo quality papers, printers for photos etc. and interlink this with your camera reviews or whatever content you have about them.

My advertising is similar. Its just the conversion is way down. I pay for my advertising to get people to the site. I did notice a small pickup the last two days.
As to the holiday season, I agree that gas prices may have an impact, however, won't that encourage people to buy online, so they don't have to waste gas driving all over to get gifts?

I think the massive calls to donate to Katrina is draining people's pocket these past few weeks.

Hopefully oil prices will head south soon if it is not already. This should give people the confidence to spend :)
