Moving from Affiliate to Merchant

converting site from affiliate site to merchant site

Has anyone had any luck converting an affiliate site to an online store? I currently have an affiliate site that's about two years old with some pretty good links and a lot of pages indexed. (it's a datafeed site). The last couple of updates have just killed it and even Y seems to be downgrading affiliate and datafeed sites anymore.

Anyway, I've decided to convert it to an actual online store. Own products, shopping cart, phone orders, etc....

What I'm wondering is, will it come back once it's revised and the SE's see it as an authentic merchant site or is the domain simply dead in the water? Should I just scrap it and start with a new domain. I have to re-do most of the pages anyhow. Any thoughts?

I'd probably go the new domain route, but either way, its most likely going to be long, long process.

Just my opinion.
