Well I tried responding to my original thread above, but it's too old or something. Anyhow I am very happy to report I am at $41/day avg. My goal is still $100/day so I've got $59 to go.

I'm very proud of this because it's almost exactly 2 months since I posted my first thread. At this rate I will hit my goal a bit ahead of schedule and not have to worry about working for someone else ever again!

Woo HOOOOOOOO!

I personally would not quit a job over $100 a day.
Yes, that is $36,525 a year, but....

Self employed usually have to pay self employment tax, you have to pay much more for health insurance ect...

I Do not work for anyone anymore, but I would have like a years worth of money in the bank and no bad debt before I quit.

But you could be 16 or living in a country where the cost of living is so low the king does not make $100 a day,

$100 a day...Thats £65 in teh Uk not exactly mega bucks and id find it hard to live on that figure even at 7 days a week.

Personally Id use the money to enhance mylife style and give me a bit more freedom from the tyranny of bosses.

There are MANY jobs where you make even less than $36k/year. That's to say, it's doable, and it doesn't mean you have to live in a dumpster. Being slightly critical of American consumerism and what people think they need to survive, not everyone needs $70k+, and the freedom you get from working on your own is worth it's weight in gold.

I guess it really depends on what your current level of income is. Many people would chop off their hands if they were given the opportunity to make $36k/year while working a couple hours a day.

Does this mean you have returned from your travels and are back up to your daily expected commissions?

Or

Have you found somewhere in Europe where you can live for less than a billion quid a week?

Sorry, jealousy will get you nowhere Ska!

I nearly quit my job last week. I had a consistent £300+ commisions per day for 10 days. Yippee!

Then 5 days of less than £25. Hmmm It is still not stable enough for me to quit my day job.

Maybe you guys are more daring than me.

Yeah rfung, update us on what your story is at the moment... still cruising Europe, or back home now?

I think your 'quest' threads have been sorely missed. You need to go on some new adventure so that we can all sit in our offices and dream of doing the same thing!

ska,

The key to getting a more consistent stream of income is diversification.

Granted ;oP

I only know one thing and have been plugging at it for 3 years.

I have been racking my brains for at least a year trying to figure out what to punt next.

Give us a clue ;)

Finance rocks but it's a bit wobbly on the consistency side.

Wow lots of negativity here, that's ok it just motivates me more. $100/day is the goal. It's not the end of the road. I've worked on 100% commission for 5 years in the past and know what it means to have fluctuations in income. Plus I have a spouse who makes very decent money.

I do not plan on stopping at $100. It just cements the fact that I can do this and $200-$300-$400 per day is just around the bend.

I currently spend 1.5 - 2 hours per day on this and if I can increase that to 8 hours per day, I can implement all the projects on the shelf right now and increase the volumes on my successful programs. That alone will give me more then enough income. PLUS, it's not like I am voluntarily quitting my job, I'm getting downsized due to a buyout.

Anyhow, let's get back to the derail about Rfung's trips...LOL

See, there is your problem. You are thinking too much about it. ;) Just build something and you would be surprised. I am finding that building sites around the strangest things is paying off.

As far as your $100 a day. I have a feeling that it is just around the corner for you. I mean Xmas is just around the corner. The trick will be keeping it above $100 a day after Xmas is over. But, good luck. you've made it this far so I am sure you will do it.

Yeah, the weirdest things sometimes make money. You never know until you try lots of different stuff. I find it helpful to make some broader sites to start out and then see what topics get the most interest and then try to beef up the ads and affiliate sales around those.

i'm always shocked when i meet people in my work that are making over $10,000/day...

some even make over $100,000/day, although it's quite difficult getting them to talk to you :)

so yes, $100 is not only possible, but it's just the beginning...

Read up on forum #25. If you target your traffic with domain parking, you can easily get 30-40% clickthrough rates vs. the meager average of 5% for affiliate marketing. Yes, I know that some people get low double digit clickthrough percentages with affiliate marketing, but that is the exception, not the norm.

Nativenewyorker, sorry if I'm being dense here, but how do you make money from targeting your traffic with domain parking?

Do you mean getting traffic to your site from parked domains? Do you reckon this traffic is better than other types?

zulu_dude asked:

Buy quality domains with the right keywords. If you have a domain called widgets.tld and someone types widgets.tld into their browser, they will more than likely click on the text ads at your site. With the correct domain name, you are appealing to exactly what the surfer wants. You get high clickthroughs with targeted ads, no maintenance headache and big bucks ... IF you do it the right way. Read up on domain parking in forum 25 [webmasterworld.com].

Do you mean getting traffic to your site from parked domains?

No, the parked domain IS your site.

Do you reckon this traffic is better than other types?

Absolutely.

I agree, diversification is the right way to go.

I built 10 small sites (3-pages) in May, all targeting different mini markets for AdSense and books. As of this month, I'm in the $33/day range. Each day, 3 or 4 of them are star performers with CTR's of better than 30%. But its never the same 3 or 4. Today's performer might be a total 0 tomorrow. So it keeps going 'round, and I am glad to have all 10.

Heh Heh Sure I have tried a number of different things but nothing pays as well as my niche. I want to keep pushing what I am but I need to increase traffic 10x.

As far as diversification goes, this is where I fall down. Everything seems to be getting beaten to death so it's hard to think of something to write about that hasn't been hammered.

I have been an affiliate for about 5 years with varying degrees of success so I do have half an idea of what its all about. My brain just can't think of anything new or interesting at the moment ;oP

I'm still in Europe. After Seville, Lisbon and Montpellier in the south of France for the last 2 months, I'm at a small village near Paris visiting a friend, drinking lots of wine, eating tons cheese and driving really fast in an old Citroen 2hp on French countryside roads. :)

I wasn't planning on posting until I hit at least $300+/day again, but in the meantime I've put up a couple sites up and I'm currently at around $180/day. Also, my parents are looking at houses to buy in the US with whom I'll be investing with as well, as part of that whole diversification thing everyone talks about.

Salut!

RFung,

You should head to Tours for a day an spend an afternoon / evening in Place Plumereau watching the world go by...great cafe's (though I'm sure you've seen plenty by now) and some great nightlife as well....

Of all the places you could have mentioned around Paris... I had to go to Tours to get the train to where I am at right now (near Loches).

I think that you would make your trip more memorable and significant if you make it a business trip as well, you should plan to affiliate your business purpose finding some good opportunities there.

Yes I took the TGV to Tours. It was a long travel day, since I came from Geneve that same morning at 7am. Can't say I've seen much that day and in Tours I was there long enough to step out of a train and into another, after going to the nearby store to buy a baguette. I'm sick of bread already.

I have been expanding my websites - my latest project is a fun site that hopefully will be forwarded by people and become one of those 'I have 10 billion page views but 0 income'. It's a single source site, but I can create different language files and domains, so in effect I have as many sites as I have languages, all from the same code, for ease of maintaining. These sites will target their specific countries, and will primarily serve as page rank 'accumulators' (if successful), so then I can have my own network that I can use to channel pagerank to my affiliate sites. It's more of a long term project, with no immediate financial benefit, but I'm realizing competition is getting fierce and you can't go by without some serious infrastructure.

I'm sure I'll be able to expense some of my travel costs because of this :)

Well, I've disclosed a bit more than I wanted, but I didn't want my messages to be all about travelling. I suppose as far as motivation, it may be somewhat on topic but I shall go back under the radar regarding my projects, until the time has come for the big comeback ;)

Just another update. I am now at $213 per day average. I hit my goal and am now rotting away at my day job until they give me a severance!

Woo HOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Next goal is $1,000 per day. I will hit it within 6 months.
