I am recommending certain books on my site.
Whats the best affiliate program (in terms of $ I get for referrals) for this? Any others besides a m a z o n?

I think Barnes & Noble may be an option.

I'm also looking for Hotel affiliate programs, one that could let me customize the whole booking process, so the visitor never leaves my website.

You may also check it with booksonline.com which is operated by Bookspan.

I havnt heard anyting bad about amazon and its really the only one I have every done any research into. I'll have to look into B&N though.

About the hotel thing, I will be looking into that and post up anything that I find. Would appreciate if you do the same! Thanks

Amazon is a very good choice. Amazon's commissions may be a bit lower than some other stores but Amazon has a strong brand image.

I believe people are much more likely to buy something from Amazon than an unknown online store.

if it would jive with your users, and the types of books you recommend, audible (audiobooks) offers really nice commisions compared to regular booksellers, although they don't have nearly the inventory if you are promoting lesser know titles.

Probably it's difficult to get best affiliate program on this bracket (in terms of $ I get for referrals). However Amazon is the best one.

I agree with Amazon. It's not that lucrative, but I feel confident it's the best option due to consumer knowledge of and confidence in that brand. Half my sales come from items unrelated to my site, either impulse purchases or sales from subsequent visits.

I used to have B&N and Powell's links to buy on review pages as well as Amazon links. But not only did people click on them less frequently, but when they did, the conversion was lower.

I've since removed those other booksellers from those pages.

Since so many people already have accounts with Amazon, it's hard to imagine a situation in which another GENERAL bookstore would convert better. I would only use a different bookstore if they had a really strong niche focus that was directly related to the focus of your site....
