Is somebody messing with my site?

I think somebody is screwing with my aff site. I have a review type site where users submit product reviews. So I go to my site the other day and there is this really long review. I look at it more closely and realize that it is actually one review that has been copied and pasted three times in a row. So I think... ok that's a little wierd. So then, I did a google search on some of the text in the review. Turns out, the exact same review is posted on my merchants site! So now I am thinking somebody is trying to create duplicate content from my site to the merch site to kill my SEO. They copied a review straight from the merchant page and pasted it three times on my page. Does it seem like a hack of some sort? or maybe someone just really wanted to express their opinions.

Hmm... if your have tons of product pages all with unique content, a single incident like this won't affect your SEO effort. Google isn't too crazy b/c of just a few duplicated content. Also, it's wise to implement a script that lets you approve new reviews. When your 'enemies' see you have a first line of defense, they will turn their attention to something else (perhaps looking for another vulnerability on your site).

I agree. You should approve the reviews before they go live.

What's to stop someone from reviewing the same item several times?

well I guess I don't mind if someone reviews an item more than once if it is not the same exact review. A second review is just additional content which is a good thing for attracting more visitors, right?

ok I don't think anyone was screwing with my site because the reviews for both sites were posted on the same day. Looks like the user started at my site and clicked through to the merch site... I guess things are working!
