Affiliate vs ad vendors

Is the word affiliate being used here the same as an ad vendor?

If so, I subscribed specifically for advice on monetizing my sites. Adsense has been solid, but I’ve always believed having a minimum of three vendors is best, in case one tanks. Which is the case - OpenX and a private vendor has dropped 80% this year.

Bottom line: What are the best affiliates/vendors for a college sports forum? I did just sign up for pubgalaxy, so I’d also like any info available on that vendor.

I don't think it is being used the same.
I thinks ads are ads, and affiliate links are different.
But I know many who see zero difference, and they even call them publishers / advertisers (versus affiliates / merchants).

I think if you find and link to comm based relevant products, that's one thing.
And if you are paid to show an ad, or for ad clicks, that's another.

Your question though, best fit for college sports forum, isn't going to have a single answer, it depends on the precise nature of your site and its traffic.
So test, test, test.

On the affiliate side...
Try GoldenCan [goldencan.com...]
Check out Fanatics affiliate program [fanatics.com...] (I prefer SAS, but Avantlink is also outstanding).
Specific sports (biking, camping, etc) will have an array of good ad bad merchants, head to Affiliate Summit conference and start making connections. [affiliatesummit.com...]

Disclosure: I'm on Summit advisory board, so I'm super dooper double-dog biased in favor of their outstanding conference!

Thanks. Has the Summit gone to a subscription model?

Edit: Sorry, I thought you meant The Summit, the Tenn women’s basketball site :-)

My online earnings took off when I started going to Summit, it turns out, relationships are still the prime way biz moves forward, imo.
PubCon was also a good move for me.
:-)

Affiliate Summit West is in Vegas in early January, rocking good time!

So we depend on organic traffic to make money via affiliate programs? Not sure, but did you guys miss the bulletin on that?
