I am finally getting noticed by search engines and get about 100 unique hits a day on my website. I have become very good at non web PR. Infact several feature articles in newspapers will be comming out in the next 3 months about my company. My questions:

1. How should I go about starting making some extra money having advertisers or affiliates on my site?

2. How can I do this without detracting from my own sales?

3. Is thier a negative perception from people about your products if you are advertising other peoples products?

I would love to hear other peoples perspectives or experiences, especially releated to pet products.

Thanks!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Glad to hear things are starting to work for you. Here's my take...

1. How should I go about starting making some extra money having advertisers or affiliates on my site?

A. Sell related products & accessories to your core offering.
B. Sell similar products to your core offering.
Each has its own benefits & downsides.

2. How can I do this without detracting from my own sales?

IMHO it will affect sales as you're providing another 'outlet' from your original sales funnel. How much is up to you. You should consider how much the potential revenue can come from outside sources, and position them on your site accordingly.

3. Is thier a negative perception from people about your products if you are advertising other peoples products?

Depends. Are you the brand or is the merchandise? Once you determine the objectives of your site, you'll find it easier to develop your strategy.

OTOH, you could always create a seperate website for advertisers....

Best 'o luck,
