Here is the NYT Story [nytimes.com]

WSJ is also reporting the same...Unknown souces.

The offer price on the table as recently as yesterday was $500 million, according to people who have been briefed on the talks. But a person close to Microsoft said last night that the negotiations were on the verge of breaking off.

LOL!

Yes, I have been reading with interest the news about this. Blogged about it today and made a big Microsoft-Gator cartoon about it for the Friday funnies. The best article I have read so far was from eWeek and I applaud David Coursey for just plain laying it on the line, the way many of us see it! He basically says that by buying Claria, Microsoft would be rewarding people who steal advertising revenue from others' Web sites.

"Microsoft's Adware-Company Buy Would Reward Deception." Here's the full article. It's pretty good.

ClickZ says the deal is dead - killed by the bad public relations potential for Microsoft. It was more than just "potential" it was already happening!
