Targeting the masses.

I have the opportunity to advertise on a website that receives anywhere from 800-2,000 visitors daily. It's a political forum, where conservatives and liberals alike discuss issues.

The majority of the forum consists of males, college-educated, $50k+ salary. It's a pretty good market, however, it's obviously not targeted. I'm simply at a loss as to what to target them with. General public merchandice, items such as cell phones (more than 50% of the US population have them), might do well.

I'm really looking for a CPA (leads or sales) solution.

Any suggestions for targeting such a wide market?

Baseball caps with "I'm #1" written on them might do the trick with those demographics.

If you could flag users as "liberal" or "conservative" then you could advertise Rush Limbaugh paraphernalia to one set and Michael Moore stuff to the other. If you don't have that ability then maybe John McCain's book for everybody?

I'd be curious to know if there is a place that has masses of information about various demographics / geographics and the buying tendencies of those people. I'm sure that kind of stuff can be bought, but a general guide would be nice in the cases where your audience can be so clearly defined.

How about mortgage and Gold/Platinum Credit cards?

People in that demographic buy houses, cars and spend money on luxuries.

Credit cards are pretty poor performers if you don't have targeted traffic. You'll be lucky to get 1 click in 1000 impressions and 1 application out of 200 clicks. (At least that's my experience.) For the traffic the original poster mentioned, that would translate into perhaps a single application per month.
