Rival companys on same site

Hi all, first post in this particular forum.

I have 3 zones I sell on my site, Ive a client who has advertised for 3 months in 2 zones which left one zone free. Now a competitor has came in with a bid for the final zone.

I'm in a fix, I want to accept the bid as you cannot turn down money, however I don't want to annoy the client who has advertised on my site for 3 months.

On the flip side, how do I know if either will advertise next month.

Does anyone have any experience of competitors battling it out on one site?

Nobody in print publishing would think twice about taking ads from competing companies. As a magazine editor I would avoid placing ads in juxtaposition if there was any serious risk of conflict but otherwise advertisers understand perfectly well that all they have bought is the space that their ad sits on.

If web advertisers feel differently then some serious management of expectations is needed.
