Are there any open source (FREE!) content management systems specifically for shopping mall type sites?

Try Mambo... it's probably the best CMS available and there are a few modules available (as add-ons, also free) for ecommerce, affiliate and so on.

Yup...Downloaded it and installed it yesterday...Looks nice so far...Just want to make sure there isn't something that caters more to affiliate marketing as far as open source...

But yeah, I like Mambo so far! Just gotta figure out how to make it work out for me...

Actually, I wish I could use the functionality of a shopping cart like xcart or zen cart but without an actual check out process!

There was some website that did a comparison of like 100 different CMS's... maybe try Googling that. Anyway, I've used one called e107, and it's got good features but I can't say I recommend it. They're coming out with a new version, though, so who knows.

If you've got the time to spend playing with it, I'd recommend typo3. Try googling for it. There's a steepish learning curve, but it's far more powerful and flexible than most systems out there.

Hope you find it useful. As I said before it can be a fairly steep learning curve but the more you use it the more powerful it seems to become.

The ability to build multiple sites from one interface is also very useful.

Typo3 is the greatest of them all, but IMO hardest to learn, it has TOO many features, modules and settings. But hell yeah, you can do anything with it, although I never built anything myself.

I've gotta say mambo is the best open source CMS i've seen yet. Blew me away. Although, the site I've used it for isn't an affiliate site so I'm not so sure how well it would work with an affiliate perspective.

Great support for it though.

Does Mambo or Typo3 do web directory type structures? I heard Mambo is geared more towards building simple corporate internet presence type sites.

Is a directory building and/or link list building a feature of any of the two?
