How hard it is to run a affiliate site without web programming skills

Hello Affiliates,

I need your expertise opinions here...

I am planning to start my own affiliate website and join any network to become an affiliate for products/services.

I have no web programming skills - I mean I don't know to code - no java, java script, css, .net, not even HTML (-:

I have earlier dealt with web development companies to build some static sites for my other business. I understand from them if sites built with content management tools (open source tools), gives the flexibility to keep changing the contents (within the existing design and layout).

I am just approaching you experts to find out these:
1. Is it really possible to manage and update deals, upload text links, banner ads, etc. by using those tools?
2. Is it required to have web programming knowledge?
3. Do I need to run to the web development companies every time I want to advertise a great deal/offer, put a new banner, pop-up message, etc.
4. Is it worth the risk to get into this without programming knowledge?

AFAIK, there aren't any AM sites that can be maintained with a CMS. The closest I know of are companies that give you a "pre-built site", but even then I think they just give you the code to use on your site. You still need to know how to upload a site.

IOW, AM might not be for you until you can take a course in web site building.

I think the Mambo CMS (open source) is pretty good. I mean, if you don't know any programming you could probably have Mambo set up and each banner etc you want to put would be as simple as Copy (banner code from merchant) and Paste (into the section of the page u want it in).

Mambo takes a while to figure out though.

I'd still recommend you learn HTML at least. It's not hard, and you could pick it up in a day if you tried.

It helps to have those skills but i know some that have very little and are very successful. Their marketing skills compensate for their lack of programming skills but they do know how to put up a basic web page.

How hard is it to be a successful affiliate with web programming skills but no marketing skills? There are some with all kinds of programming skills but no clue of marketing.

Usually the very best have both or extremely good at one. And if you're lacking in one area, it's something you can learn.

I don't know any programming & am setting up affiliate programs now using a sitebuilder thas provided w/ my DSL service.

Some people on other message boards think this is ecommerce suicide but some don't...but then again I'm a wholesale manufacturer of my own products & am only affiliating to other companies who have products that compliment my products...
So I guess it depends on what you are planning to do.

Given this wohle thing works on the internet, I suppose the very least to ask from anyone trying to make a buck would be to konw how to create a simple one page site.

If you have the marketing skills to compensate, one page sites is all you need.

learn frontpage or dreamweaver and you'll be fine. Anything else you can pay someone to do.
