In october last year I created a amazon affiliate website just to try and see how it worked. I put it in a free server, submited to all search engines, got a few links, then classes started and I simply forgot about the site. I never updated it ever since.

So you can't believe my surprise, when today I visited my amazon affiliate page and I saw I had $25. Even more surprising was that all that sales where made between 6 march and 22 march. I also saw that in day six, the average daily visitors to my site multiplied by 5.

Does anyone has any idea of how this hapened since I don't promote, or do anything for this site for months?

You finally got out of the Google "sandbox" and started getting referrals from Google? This can take about six months.

Some high-traffic site listed yours?

Check your logs and see where you are getting referrals from. This is very useful information. If you can't get this information because you're on a free server you might consider switching to a paid-for service which will give you this info.

online_rich, the $25 I talk up there come only from amazon.com affiliate. I am using free hosting, so I think it worked, but it took a while and I really don't know what hapened. Is something that could disapear anytime I guess.

Sorry if this has been asked, im new here... but ive seen references to the Google "sandbox". Mark me as an idiot, but please explain what the sandbox is?

Hey,

Basically the sandbox means that newer sites get put in a phase where they won't really be found in search results - They are way down there.

Sometime a new site will rank for a little bit, then fall. There are rumors as to how long a site stays in the sandbox.

Many say it depends on the idustry/keywords. I generally hear 2-6 months.

All the Best,

C.K.

hey online_rich to make some bucks in the online world is tricky, i suggest you sign up with CJ and Linkshare first, then you can move on to others, now the hard part is how to get traffic, SEO takes too long to see results, if you want to make money promoting "aff" with your website you gotta wait at least 6 months to see results, there are some tools to get faster results as in little as 28 days for a top 20 depends the keyword as well, but they aren't so cheap, if you want to see fast results try the PPC programs, you will have your ad up and running in 15 minutes. maybe that can help you save some search time :)
