My website is almost ready to put on line and I'm charging a small fee for most of it.

And for that I need a way to process credit cards.

And right now that's a mystery to me. I know I need a merchant account and I've contacted a couple of online processors and ended up more confused than when I started.

I've heard I can do the processing myself through a merchant account at my bank and I don't know what that's all about either.

If I can do the processing myself what am I getting for the monthly fees and percentages?

How are credit cards processed?

I'm confused.

You need a company that will handle transactions in your own country, otherwise you are going to end up stuck with Forex charges for every payment to your account.

I could recommend the company that I use, but only if you want sterling transferred to a UK bank account. The choice depends on a lot of factors, if you just want to process on-line then there are companies around who handle the whole process for you and transfer the money to your bank account at the end of the day.
