In general, that "make money" industry is so full of scams, don't waste a second reading anything by anybody who uses that phrase. Read this forum instead and you will get a much better picture of how to do it.
Also known as mail order.
People were selling all sorts of things, either with an ad in a magazine, or a salesletter in your mailbox.
Fortunes were made selling diet pills, cowboy boots, music, you name it.
But the best selling thing ever sold by mail order were books on how to make money in mail order.

Honestly most of these testimonials are true, they are just old.
However, no one sells the kind of information you can get from reading endlessly through this board. At least not yet.
I came directly from this "make money online" sector. I branched out to this AM thing because Iam technically inclined and webmastering is one of my natural inclinations. But by and large, most of my online income is derived from my participation in these programs.
Don't get me wrong though. Most of these "make money online" programs are outright scams. Iam not telling you otherwise. But there are plenty of genuine progs out there whose business-model is based on sound economics. And Iam involved in those. Iam not telling which is which because that's a trade secret. But thats easy to determine if you are prepared to investigate further.
People involve in these progs advertise because they are making some money doing so. Maybe not as much they claim but enough to warrant some serious attention here. Most are doing basic MLM, some are involved in HYIPs, some in cyclers. The basic idea is rooted in referral marketing and its variations. Get someone to join a certain program and you get paid an outright commission. The pay structure can sometimes extend up to 10 tiers so if you get lucky and recruit someone who is in turn a terrific recruiter himself, you can hit big time pretty easy.
Other programs are operated via profit sharing scheme. You "invest", the program goes into some kind of business, and you share in the profits. Simple. But very tricky.
Iam warning you though, this world is a dog eat dog world. Ponzis far outnumber the real progs. If you're not careful here, you'll end up losing rather than earning. And as webmaster, by going here, you can potentially lead innocent people to their "financial death" if your not careful. So thread lightly =)
Also, it should be noted that these forums are fellow webmasters who have no reason (ie making money) to lie or make things up or be dishonest. There are always a few bad eggs, and people sometimes like to embelish, but for the most part it's honest. Wish I could say the same for the one-page sales letter sites that talk about how they made $3,273.65 in two days - and you can too!

I just want to comment on and add to brickwall's post. I do referral marketing and You got to be SUPER careful of progs - for 2 years almost now, 250 members of my yahoo group did a whole bunch of different progs ( private and web-based) and most turned out to be outright scams including a few that had the whole crowd completely fooled. Seems that once the money is in their hands or just a click-to- transfer away, it becomes very hard for some admins to pay it out so they just keep it and fabricate stories about hackers, lost data leading to long delays, health issues, and it goes on.
But I get satisfaction from teaching and helping others to develop an income from home.
I am not very knowledgeable about computers but I have the ability to write material that inspires people to have hope for the future of online referral marketing. So many people have gotten scammed that they have lost faith in the Net to make them money but really, they trusted the wrong people. Also greed is one reason people lose their money. Program admins prey on greedy, inexperienced people and on the Net, its easy to find people who want to start on their way to riches.

I just got to react to the reasons given by the admins when a prog is about go bust.
They usually say "ohh sorry, a hacker got into our system and withdrew so much money that we are unable to pay you. we lost money too" or "our server crashed and we completely lost our database. we now don't know who is a member and who is not. can't pay under these circumstances". And you know what, people actually believe them on a regular basis! Some even to the extent that they will defend admin in forums.
Truly, a sucker is born every minute. And online, most of them gravitate towards these ponzis.
