Forum Moderators: skibum
I have been lurking on this (affiliate) forum for quite some time now after initially being introduced to WebmasterWorld about a year ago when I began working for an SEO. I figured it would be best to put in all the research prior to posting any message at all, and so I dug in about two weeks ago and can say with pride I've read or at least skimmed through all 181 pages of threads, likely reading at some 75% or more of them. With the last count of total posts being 26,975, I'm satisfied at meeting my reading goal without one visit to the psychiatric ward (many nights of heavy drinking however :) ). With that I ask for your patience and tolerance with regards to my unmatched ability for neurotic and seemingly disjointed postings...(although in my own defense the clock just ticked past 3:00 am).
Anyways, my intent with this post is really a general introduction to where I came from and my ambitions in the future, along with a liberal sprinkling of (hopefully) admirable questions.
To give you a rough idea of my current involvement in AM, I'll share a little history.
I arrived in LA about a year ago after having a "quarter-life crisis" in college. I was finding myself questioning why I was in a chemistry lab at 10:00 p.m. racking my brain feverishly so I could conceivably win another shot at doing it in grad school, from which I'd advance into an even deeper monotonous, semi-conscious state of existence known as the 9-5. Maybe a little melodramatic, but you get the point.
So I ended up in LA. Having considerable experience with web design, and knowing myself to be quite capable learning a new skillset, I jumped head first into the SEO industry.
After six months or so of interfacing with large clients on a daily basis, I was able to begin seeing just how large the impact of first and second page SERPS listings was having business.
At the same time I was routinely canvassing 10 or more SEO authority sites every day attempting to learn as much as possible about E-commerce, SEO, and anything remotely related. I became quite proficient at my work and I began to see the *INCREDIBLE* profit and growth potential that exists with high visibility
on the SEs.
How interesting it became that the more I read, the more references I noticed to this long-known but long abandoned and ignorantly detested concept of affiliate marketing. I never believed that much money was actually being made, not to mention people actually doing this fulltime. In addition, if there had been, wouldn't the market be completely saturated and therefore the barrier to any form of success much too high? Enter WebmasterWorld: Advertising section. I had jumped around this forum before in the past year or so, but become serious about diving into AM and this was just what I needed. I now understand that with a certain critical mass of mental anguish, persistence and the patience of a monk I can and will succeed at this business.
Before delving into my current projects, goals, and questions I wanted to thank everyone especially the experienced ones around here for being so helpful to the noobs.
rfung ---- your posts are great, and probably account for at least a portion of the motivation that got me started! good luck on the newly aquired $300/day goal!
MovingOnUp, Webmastertexas, Michael Anthony,
Teenwolf, GuitarZan, Zygoot ------- Thoroughly enjoy these posts, as they are always filled with great information and insight into AM.
hdpt00 -- I applaud the ambition.
If I dont mention your name, I apologize but my memory is limited after pouring over 25K posts. :)
Here is where Im at now.
Its been three months since I got the new server -
virtual dedicated - 5 IPs, although all same C-class.
Becoming somewhat proficient with keyword and market research at the day job, it was quite easy to identify many market niches.
I have 12 new domains for individual unique projects. I have had one website in a very targeted diet supplement niche "done" for about two months now and am just starting to show mediocre rankings for some insignificant keywords. Adsense $ is negligible with about 10 uniques/day, however YESTERDAY I got my first sale! What a rush that is!
The majority of the other sites are in progress and
going to be product news/reviews sites with similar site modules (forum, mailing lists, membership, news aggregates, etc). Right now I'm working on writing a sort of CMS structure in PHP/mysql for all my sites to consolidate and automate management. If anyone else has experience with this or would like to contribue , Sticky me and we can work something out. I have alot of experience with these type things and will be absolutely willing to share the scripts once finished.
I have an SEO site right now with some very good tools, if you are searching for better keyword/market research tools, sticky me for the address.
I'm so excited to get all these projects done and start to see some decent results. I'm sure many of you are familiar with the initial craze and the state of having so many ideas to implement with not enough time that it almost paralyzes you back into the 9-5.
My goal is to be out of the 9-5 doing AM fulltime by august. Given that would be about 5 months from now, I see it achievable. (which being 21 only with a few bills and apt rent makes it that much easier).
I look forward to getting a chance to meet many of you and good luck with everything!
I wrote you a sticky email which was only to express my interest (not even with any sort of contact details).
So, I just whish you good luck and watch out.
