I stumbled upon this site around two months ago and have been an avid lurker ever since. I've finally decided to take the leap from reading about affiliate marketing to actually doing it.
My friend and I will be partners in a lifestyle/cutlure blog-type website. It will be challenging as I am aware but I look forward to the challenge. Literally, my uncle, friends and everybody in between have strongly advised against a 50/50 partnership.
Our site will consist of a blog that will be updated once a day by my friend and a series or articles/reviews about products etc.
My friend is a creative writing major (scored an 800 on the english portion of his SATS) who recently graduated from Princeton with a very captivating writing style that I am confident will bring back visitors. Ivy league does not mean instant success... however, there is some atrocious writing on the net.
Our entire design and coding has been outsourced with a budget of $1500-2000. Our sources of revenue will be adsense and affiliate links.
I wanted to share my startup experience as I have appreciated reading the countless thoughtful posts that I have found to be both informative and motivating. This site will be a learning process for us and we hope to execute our business plan to claim our share of the gold that's "still left in 'dem mountains". =)
Regards

Imagine for instance that one of you posts considerable more content than the other person. Or that content posted by you pulls in more traffic than content posted by your friend. Or that pages created by him generate much more revenue than yours.. People can be very mean and greedy.
I think it's best to create an agreement with your friend regarding how you will split work and payments. (If you haven't done this yet).
We have written out a formal agreement with exit clauses and our defined roles. I am in charge of operations and he is the sole content provider.
Only time will tell if we are the exception to the rule of keeping business and friends/family seperate.
