20 million page views per month
1 million unique visitors per month
I've inherited the site due to someone passing away. The site is a single page and currently has no ads, which is why its a single page and so many people directly link to it. It has a page rank of 6/7 on Google and has over 4000 direct links to it.
I'm interested to know what some very conservative estimates are for the site's potential income. It provides a service of sorts and really has no content.
For those kind of sites CPM-based banners are generally the best thing. Try signing up for services as Fastclick, Burst Media, Casale Media. They pay you a certain amount per thousand visitors.
If it really has 20 million pageviews a month then here's a quick calculation. This calculation is based on one single ad that earns you an average of $0.20 per thousand visitors (higher should be possible).
(20,000,000/1000) * $0.20 = $4000 a month.
The "Free widget" websites work via viral marketing and affiliate payouts. Each person trying to get a free iPod has to sign up for an offer and get 5 friends to do the same. These free widget companies get money for signing people up for stuff, obviously more than it costs to buy the widget they offer for free (so thus they can make money). It works because the customers do most of the work passing it onto friends (you need 5 or so for most offers, otherwise no widget).
I don't recommend them, but if I were you and I got the highest payout from that, I'd do it.
Can someone quantify some very realistic numbers?
Can it definately earn $1k/month? I just want to be realistic.
I dont want to fill the page with ads because people might not want to visit it anymore.
Zygoot -- do places that pay via CPM basically buy that spot, say a banner, 24/7? So if the page gets 20 million page views per month, I can assume they've bought all of them or will there be times when they dont have any ad to put there and the spot earns nothing?
Thanks again everyone.
I would think that most experienced people here could take a site like that and make significantly more than $1,000 a month.
Sites with that many links and that much traffic are worth a lot these days.
It is one of those sites like worldtimeserver.com
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if each of you hasn't visited it at least once in the past month.
Anyway, I do plan to add an "Enter Site" link and then provide content so as to not reduce the simplicity of the main page.
Thats the plan. I will add about 2 dozen educational pages on the topic, as well as external links to resources around the net. This alone should raise the page rank from 6/7 to 8.
Also, the site has become popular due to its utility alone and not due to promotion. I plan to do some promotion through further link exchanges, etc.
The site currently has 5000 direct links pointing to it, I'd like to increase that to 10000.
Most likely if the site can bring in $4k/month as someone suggested, I may then hire a technical writer/web developer.
I'm definately going to try traditional advertising first, as in sign up w/ doubleclick, tribal, fastclick, etc. Ideally I'd like to see at least $4k/month, if not more. If I can double the traffic, etc., I'd like to see at least $10k/month as the PR would go up as well.
If none of those produce any decent income, I *may* try something else although putting casino, adult, pharmacy, free ipods, etc., type of thing, will just kill the site's professional aspect.
Lets see how things go. I should be able to post the URL to the site within a week as soon as my lawyer gives me the go ahead.
