Okay, so this week I launched a content site that I advertise on Google Adwords, and the first complete day after my launch I was able to bring in $114 in profit. Since then I havent changed a thing, but my leads and sales have gone way down to where im just breaking even with my daily advertising costs. However, every single stat has been the same, the amount adwords clicks, the conversion percentage of when they would click on an affiliates link and view that page yet for some reason the masses only wanted to convert on a single day. The affiliates didnt change, there werent any big sales or special deals on that day because they are not that type of affiliate but I have been earning less and less. Is this common or is there some reason anyone else has discovered? I just cant comprehend why one day could be so great yet every other day mediocore.

Thanks

Welcome to affilate marketing! Unfortunately this can happen. Like say one day 20 sales and next day 1, etc.
Sometimes there is no apparent obvious reason for this. Happens in the real world of shopping too.

Depends on what you are selling as well. Could also be some type of fraud, this is something you would have to investigate and do tests, maybe try out other affiliate programs/networks, etc.

Best thing is to focus not too much on your daily profits but your overall weekly/monthly accumulated profits and base your business decisions on that.

Hope this helps.

It's been noted for some time now that the first day or few days a new adwords ad converts really well, then it's downhill from there. New ads for whatever reason tend to convert better. Also check in the adwords forum for more info about this.

There is no pattern to peoples buying I notice that sales come in around 10am and 3pm then 7pm with very little inbetween.

When do people buy stuff?

When they want to.

How can I predict this?

You can't, online or offline.

I would suggest working on some new stuff to add to the existing, rather than agonising over the daily ups and downs. The more industries and services you can cover, the less likely you will be to suffer from seasonal downturns - diversity is the key in affiliate marketing.

Here are my conversion stats from 2004 by day of week:

Sunday: 8.03%
Monday: 8.32%
Tuesday: 8.52%
Wednesday: 8.87%
Thursday: 8.01%
Friday: 8.46%
Saturday: 8.14%

It looks like people buy on days that end in "y".
