Was an affiliate of XYZ for over 5 years without any problems.
Then suddenly in March-- for the first time ever-- XYZ mysteriously became "deactivated", with all commissions earned in February and part of March "locked."
I contacted CJ and I was told that the reason why this happened was that XYZ hadn't paid its balance and I wouldn't get paid until it did.
Now why would XYZ suddenly do that after years and years without incident? Easy-- because it's not technically XYZ anymore, even though it still exists with all of its branding. You see, last year SOB Inc. bought out XYZ. And it seems that when it completed the transition in February, it conveniently "forgot" (or maybe just plain didn't care) about XYZ's account at CJ and let it become deactivated.
I would've given SOB Inc the benefit of the doubt. The problem is that it never sent out a letter to all of us at CJ of its intentions. Worse yet, I've tried two times to contact SOMEONE (both through CJ mail and mail through SOB's official site) and was ignored.
So now I'm angry. It's not about the money, but the principle. It's not right for this company to think that just because they're the new owners, they don't have an obligation to pay those of us who have been affiliated with XYZ for years.
What should I do about this? Start thinking about pursuing this legally? Or is there probably something in the fine print where I'm pretty much screwed?
I really hope you're right.
I'm just really frustrated by this situation, as XYZ has been a solid affiliate for years and I have no idea what SOB Inc is up to, especially since it's been laying off employees from the XYZ staff and doing some other questionable actions.
I'll post an update if anything happens.
