That leaves the other 25%, plus all of the less targeted traffic that I'm getting from various sources. What is the best way to monetize this traffic - the people who don't register for my free service?
Should I add a banner and/or some text links to the top of my homepage, assuming that some of them will click the links and that this won't be a distracton to those who are signing up for my service?
Should I promote something via a DHTML exit pop up (or other format that isn't blocked by popup blockers) that is displayed only to those who don't register or click any of the links I want them to click?
Any other ideas? If I can just squeeze a tiny bit out of all of the people who don't register, and the free or really cheap untargeted traffic I'm getting, it would just make the whole project a lot more profitable - especially if I re-invest these extra profits in more targeted advertising.
Since it's a simple free service, and sort of an impulse thing, I assumed it would be a waste of time/effort to offer a free report etc in order to try to build a list of these people. My free registration form is right on the homepage, and it only asks for name and email, and if they are not willing to register for free to checkout my service I figured there would be no point in trying to get them on a list to followup with them about it later. After all, it would take just as much effort (or less) to register for my service as it would to request my free report or whatever.
Anyway, I know a lot of the people here are "expert" marketers so I would love to hear your feedback on how to best monetize all this traffic that does not register for my free service. Thanks!
i'm interested in doing the same sort of thing, so sticky me with whatever script you use if you end up putting an exit pop on your page.
