Amazon - Multi-currency?

I have a site that is targeted to both the US and Europe. I've signed up with Amazon (.co.uk) affiliates but from what I can see, all their product links display GBP so this is obviously no-help to those not in the UK.

I'm guessing I'd get the same problem if I used amazon.com links (they'd be in USD - so not much help to those in Europe).

What should I do in this scenario?

Each Amazon is a separate business, so you're right that you have to join each program separately. You also get paid in the currency of the country where each Amazon is located.

You can either provide labeled links to all the Amazons you belong to, or create different pages for different locations....

Ewwww!

Was hoping someone would tell me I was doing something dumb and I just needed to use #*$!#*$!x instead.

I understand that each site is a different business, but they're still one company - I'd have thought they'd come up with a solution to this problem, they must be losing a lot of cash because of people seeing ads in a different currency.

I think they have their reasons for maintaining the separation, one of them being wanting to have the Associates for a given Amazon be residents of that country, and be focusing on visitors from that country. If you compare that approach to Google AdSense's global approach, I can see that. Google's approach leads to more Made-for-AdSense sites, arguably, and if Amazon did the same they'd get "Made-for-Amazon" sites instead.

I also doubt that they are losing much money as a result. Amazon is in a very different position from many companies with affiliate programs. Their income from Associate-driven sales is a small part of their total income. They want Associates to get them business they wouldn't otherwise, not just intercept someone on the way to Amazon already....
